You put your heart and soul into an event- found the best venue, crafted a killer agenda, and lined up the best speakers in town.

Did the attendees love it? Hate it? Or somewhere in between? You’ll never know unless you ask! Post-event survey questions must be carefully chosen, strategically designed, and asked at the right time and place!

What is a Post-Event Survey?

A post-event survey is a questionnaire sent to the attendees after an event has been wrapped up.

It is your chance to get inside their heads and understand what they thought about the event—yes, the same event that gave you sleepless nights!

These surveys can include questions about anything, from the venue and the snacks to the speakers on the dais.

Did the keynote speaker leave everyone buzzing, or were attendees checking their watches? Was the networking session a goldmine for connections, or did people feel awkward and isolated? The survey provides answers to these questions and more.

You can think of it as a give-and-take or even a two-way conversation. You put in the effort to create the event, and the survey allows attendees to share their honest feedback.

Use these questions to fine-tune your processes!

General Post-Event Questions

1. How satisfied were you with your experience at the event?

This question gives you an idea of the attendees’ overall experience. It’s like a key part of a survey you send out after the event to see how it went from their point of view.

The responses can quickly tell you what worked and what flopped. With this information, you can take action to improve.

Plus, by asking their opinion, you show them that you care about what they think, which can make them feel more connected to your brand or organization.

2. On a scale of 1-10, how likely are you to return next year?

This is a game-changer! Getting a high score shows that your attendees are super excited about the next event.
But if the scores are lower, it’s like a heads-up that there’s room to improve even further next time.

3. Did the event meet your expectations regarding the content and topics?

If you want to know if the event lived up to what attendees were expecting in terms of the stuff talked about and discussed, this question is a must.

If they say yes, it’s like a high-five for hitting the mark. But if they say no, it’s a sign that maybe there was a mismatch between what was promised and what went down.

4. Would you recommend this event to a colleague facing similar challenges?

This question cuts straight to the chase. If the attendees say yes, they are ready to endorse. It’s like saying, “Hey, this event rocked, and you should check it out!”

But if they’re not keen on recommending it, it indicates some areas need improvement.

5. Is there anything else you’d like to share about your experience at the event?

Always end with an open-ended question.

This gives them a chance to open up about their experience, whether good or bad. It’s like giving them the mic for any final thoughts, suggestions, or shoutouts they might have.

This can include both offline and virtual events.

1. Fundraiser

Rolling out surveys after a fundraiser event is important to bridge the gap between you and the donors. They are usually sent online.

Post-event survey questions you must consider:

  1. Overall, how satisfied were you with your experience at the fundraising event?
    (Very Satisfied, Satisfied, Neutral, Dissatisfied, Very Dissatisfied) (Likert Scale)
  2. Did the event meet your expectations? (Yes/No)
  3. On a scale of 1 (not likely at all) to 5 (extremely likely), how likely are you to attend a similar event in the future? (Rating Scale)
  4. Rate the quality of the food and beverages served at the event. Excellent, Good, Average, Below Average, Poor) (Multiple Choice)
  5. Is there anything else you want to share about your experience at the event? (Open Ended)

2. Live Performances

The applause fades, but the insights must never. It is important to peek behind the curtain and understand your audience’s experience.

  1. How well did the performance meet your expectations?

  2. Which aspect of the performance did you enjoy the most (acting, singing, music, etc.)? (Dropdown, Image Choice Questions)
  3. On a scale of 1 (not at all clear) to 5 (crystal clear), how clear was the sound quality during the performance? (Scale Question)
  4. Would you recommend this performance to a friend or colleague? (Yes/No)
  5. Is there anything else you want to share about your experience at the live performance? (Open Ended)

3. Exhibition

Exhibitions are like bursts of energy—sound, light, and a ton of interaction. Exhibition survey questions give insights into visitors’ thoughts and ideas about your hard work.

Questions to Ask

Start with the basics!

  1. Did the exhibition meet your expectations in terms of the variety of exhibitors and products showcased? (Yes/No)
  2. Which types of exhibits did you find most informative or engaging? (Multiple Choice Selection of Exhibit Types if they are few, Dropdown if it’s a vast list)
  3. Did the exhibition layout make it easy for you to navigate and find the booths you were interested in? (Yes/No)
  4. Did you attend any educational seminars or workshops at the exhibition? (Yes/No if yes, which one?)
  5. How likely are you to attend a similar exhibition we organize in the future?
    (Scale Question: 1 – Not Likely at All, 5 – Extremely Likely)

4. Workshop

Post-workshop surveys are crucial to understanding whether the workshop sparked new ideas. You need it to measure the impact of your workshop.

A Webinar is a virtual occasion and requires more post-event attention than offline ones.
You need to know if it landed well with your audience.

6. Conference

Knowing if it hits the mark after the final session wraps up and the attendees head home is important. That bridge between the closing remarks and the event feedback is crucial!

  3. Was the registration process easy to understand and complete?

Common Mistakes to Avoid while Creating Post-Event Survey Questions

  • Avoid Leading Questions. Don’t influence the answers.
  • Skip double-barreled questions like “How was the venue’s cleanliness and comfort?” (Split into two questions)
  • Avoid industry terms attendees might need help understanding.
  • Don’t overdo open-ended questions. It is important to balance them with closed-ended for easier analysis.

How to Conduct a Post-Event Survey
